Rev. Gloria Walker

Rev. Gloria Walker, Itinerant Elder

During her early years Rev. Walker received Jesus Christ as Savior at the age of eleven. She began
teaching Sunday School at age fourteen and often speaks of having heard the voice of the Lord call
her into the Gospel Ministry when she was seventeen. At the age of twenty-eight she had a conversion experience and committed and consecrated her life to Jesus Christ. She has been walking by faith since then committing Galatians 2:20 as her life verse.

Rev. Walker has served Union in many capacities as a servant, preacher, teacher, and leader. She currently serves as Women’s Ministry Leader, Prayer Intercessor, Official Board, Church Conference and Quarterly Conference Secretary, Class Leader President, and also assists Pastor Thomas in overseeing new Licentiates in Ministerial Training. She has recently taught in the 1st District AME Ministerial Institute & the Program for Licensed Evangelists.

She received her first ordination as Local Deacon in May 2009 by Bishop Richard F. Norris, and final ordination as Local Elder in May 2011 by Bishop Zedekiah Lazette Grady. In May 2014, during the 198th Philadelphia Annual Conference her orders were transferred from Local Elder to Itinerant Elder, under the leadership of Bishop Gregory G.M. Ingram. She was honored to be one of two preachers at the Philadelphia District Conference in 2010 at Bethel Pottstown and has been invited to preach in several AME Churches in the Philadelphia District.

Her undergraduate studies began at Cheyney University where she majored in English/Accounting. She completed and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Geneva College while studying at the Center for Urban Theological Studies (CUTS), in 1999. She then developed and taught a “Women in Ministry” course on the undergraduate level and taught it for several semesters at CUTS. She attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary of Philadelphia as a full time UTI Student, and earned a Master of Divinity Degree in 2005. She also served as an Admissions Department liaison to students of interest, and hostess to various guest speakers.

She has held employment since 2006 at the International Headquarters of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and is a 2012 initiate of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She is a graduate of the Leadership Academy of The Philadelphia Urban League and has also taken many other courses, workshops, and seminars that has helped her in personal and professional development.

Rev. Walker is willing to help and to serve God’s people. She loves visiting the sick and encouraging others with a Word from the Lord. She loves ministering to anyone that is willing to listen and hear the Word of the Lord. She has a special heart for the babes in Christ.

Another life verse that has been true in her life is Isaiah 61:3 “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified”. You will often hear her say “To God be the Glory, I’ve been made in the furnace of affliction”.
